- This film follows the footsteps of Irg Steiner (1888-1972) from Ramsau on the foot of the Dachstein Mountain. In 1909 Franz and Irg Steiner succeeded in the first direct ascent across the Dachstein South Face to the summit. Today, their route has become famous and classical. Steiner deserted in the First World War, and during the years of the war he hid himself in the alpine pastures of the Dachstein Massif. That he also found shelter in the beds of certain Alpin dairymaids made people’s gossip about the legendary Irg increase considerably. Later, Irg became a renowned mountain guide. However, as a family father he offered hardly as much security as a crumbly rock. In the film we follow the last companions of Irg Steiner and on the “Steinerweg” we climb the route of the Steiner Boys.
