They have to cross three cols, each of them higher than 5,000 metres; they have to deal with dust, snow and ice; they have to traverse torrential rivers: Lamba, the leading bull, and Lamjung, his adversary. Both of them are yaks, the great, scraggy bovines which live in the mountains of the Himalayas. On the trails of the caravans across the border area between Nepal and Tibet they have to carry rice, salt and cereals on their back. On their way they risk to be the prey of the mysterious and dangerous snow leopard, or to starve. On the Kang-La-Pass, all almost ends in a disaster.
