Turkey is a bridge between Europe and Asia. Throughout history numerous species of animals and plants have migrated to Turkey from the Mediterranean region, the cool north, the steppes and mountain ranges of Asia and even from the arid environments of Arabia and Africa. Many of them evolved into new species that can only be found there today. Some of them still use this bridge year after year. Every spring and autumn the biggest air show on Earth is staged in the sky above the Bosporus, when thousands of white storks, birds of prey and singing birds fly across it. However, Turkey is not only a country of wild animals. People started to settle there in ancient times. Today Turkey’s population is as diverse as the peoples that used to live there once: the Hettites, the Greek, the Romans and the Ottomans. In short statements, people who live in Turkey tell about their lives amidst the diverse nature of their home country.
