The 2,339 m high Bromo ranks among the most active vulcanoes on the Indonesian island Java. The people of the Tengger, with a population of around 10,000 people, live around this mountain. Their skills in crop production yield rich harvests on the fertile precipices of the volcanic landscape and provide the basis for a well-working social and education system. For them, modern foreign languages and computer skills are just as important as their distinctive sense of community and the commitment to foster their exclusively orally transmitted language, ceremonies and rituals. This film shows every-day life and the traditions of this extraordinary people as well as their fascinating living space around the holy mountain Bromo.
