“Southern Extreme”
Alpine Documentation (), Monica Schmiedt, Sylvestre Campre (Brasilien/Brasil) 92 min
In March 2003, five alpinists decide to set up a camp in the Southern Extreme of Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire).Working in adverse conditions, icy temperatures, rain and strong wind, the group has an ambitious goal: to climb Mount Sarmiento. This mountain, 2404 meter high, situated in Chile is known for its beauty, isolation and dangers. In this confrontation with wild nature, the major obstacle, more dreadful than avalanches and ice walls, can be in each man’s heart. Facing the “Ice Sphinx of Sarmiento” dramatically changes the most intimate feelings of every member of the group.
