September in the Alps: the summer is already over on the peaks and meadows, and you can hear an impressive echo off the rock walls. The red deer rut is the most imposing event of the year. The strongest stags round up a group of females and defend them against their rivals. This is the start of the documentary “Prinz der Alpen”, which shows the first year of a deer calf and provides extraordinary insights into the behaviour and habitat of these noble animals. Well worth seeing are the huge herds of antlered deers, the rutting season and the survival of the stone deers in the snow and ice above the timber line.
